Summer semester 26: Aviation Museum - Extension of the Heritage Junkers Halls in Oberschleißheim

The Junkers Halls in Oberschleißheim were constructed in 1934 by the lightweight construction pioneer Hugo Junkers as aircraft hangars. To achieve the remarkable span of 35 metres, he employed his patented steel lamella construction system. Of the original three-hall complex, only two halls survived the second world war and are now listed as building heritage.

This bachelor’s thesis develops the architectural design for a new third hall intended to house the Deutsches Museum’s exhibits on modern aviation. The relationship between the new building and the listed historic halls serves as the project’s guiding principle, both conceptually and structurally.
