Design Project - Structures (PLT)

Master, winter semester + summer semester

The project TRANSFORM targets the design of a lightweight, long-span roof within a historical context. The focus lies on the transformation of the structure as a 4-dimensional system. Reversible, modular, and movable structures are investigated and tested in digital and physical models. The goal is to develop an efficient and realistic architectural solution through the symbiosis of form, structure, and construction.

Fort Asterstein is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. As part of the restoration, a reversible roof of the horseshoe-shaped courtyard is envisioned. The design enables flexible cultural use and serves as a symbol for revitalising the Koblenz fortress.
