Claus Lange
Dipl.-Chem.
After completing his Abitur and military service with a diploma in chemistry, Claus Lange studied at the Phillipps University of Marburg an der Lahn, graduating as a certified chemist. Following his apprenticeship for the "höheren feuerwehrtechnischen Dienst" for the city of Hanover, he headed the fire prevention division of the fire department and additionally worked in management and coordination of operations.
In 1997, he took over the management the division for the fire department in the Hanover city administration and was responsible for ensuring fire prevention, emergency response cervices, rescue services, and disaster prevention. With approximately 800 full-time and 750 volunteer staff, his extensive responsibilities also included leading major operations as head of the city of Hanover's disaster relief staff.
For over 30 years until his retirement in 2019 as director of the fire department, he participated in numerous committees and groups on issues such as fire prevention, rescue services, and crisis management. In addition, from 1994 to 2022, he was a member of the editorial team "BRANDSchutz/Deutsche Feuerwehr-Zeitung" (Fire Prevention/German Fire Department Journal) published by W. Kohlhammer in Stuttgart, with a focus on hazardous materials and rescue services.
Since 2003, he has been giving lectures on fire prevention as a teaching associate at the Leibniz University Hannover, Faculty of Architecture and Landscape Sciences. He places great importance on linking theory and practice in order to plan buildings in a way that implements aesthetics, functionality, safety, and fire protection in a solution-oriented and conceptual manner.
Claus Lange has contributed his extensive expertise and experience to numerous publications in the fields of hazardous materials and goods, fire prevention, leadership, crisis management, fire department service planning, rescue services, and disaster prevention. As a textbook author, fire prevention is a particular passion of his. His book „Vorbeugender Brandschutz in der Gebäudeplanung“ (Preventive Fire Protection in Building Planning), published by Springer Vieweg, 2021, ISBN 978-3-658-34931-8, is especially of note.
